Sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic agent, which is what makes it the standard diluent for reconstituting lyophilised peptides. The benzyl alcohol is the whole point: plain sterile water has no preservative, so a vial reconstituted with it must be used essentially immediately, while bacteriostatic water allows a multi-day working period at 2-8 C.
Add it down the vial wall rather than directly onto the peptide pellet, and let the pellet dissolve without vortexing, since shear damages longer peptide chains. Note that benzyl alcohol is not compatible with every compound, so check before defaulting to it.
Alternatives in stock: phosphate buffered saline and acetic acid water 0.6% for peptides needing acidic conditions. Also included in every Complete Kit.
