SS-31 is a tetrapeptide with an alternating aromatic-cationic structure, and that design gives it an unusual property: it concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane without needing a membrane potential to get there, which is exactly the situation in dysfunctional mitochondria where potential is already lost. It associates with cardiolipin, the phospholipid specific to that membrane, and research centres on the effect of that interaction on cristae structure and electron transport efficiency.
Supplied lyophilised per vial. Store sealed at -20 C, reconstitute with bacteriostatic water, refrigerate the working solution and keep it dark.
