MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded in mitochondrial DNA rather than the nuclear genome, which is what makes it unusual: it belongs to the small group of mitochondrial-derived peptides, and its existence supports the idea that mitochondria signal to the rest of the cell rather than only producing energy. Research centres on AMPK activation and metabolic regulation, which is why it appears alongside AICAR in exercise-mimetic work despite reaching AMPK by a different route.
Supplied lyophilised per vial. Store sealed at -20 C, reconstitute with bacteriostatic water, keep the working solution refrigerated and away from light.
